Under the care of Dr Sveeta Badiani, Consultant Cardiologist in London, this test provides a detailed record of your heart’s electrical activity over an extended period. It allows accurate diagnosis of cardiac arrhythmias and other intermittent rhythm disturbances, such as palpitations, skipped beats, or unexplained fainting episodes that standard ECGs might miss.
A 24-Hour ECG Holter Monitor, commonly known as a Holter monitor, is a portable device which continuously records the electrical activity of the heart over an extended period. It helps to diagnose heart issues that may not show up on a standard ECG.
During the test, sticky patches (electrodes) are attached to your chest, wired to a small, portable recorder you wear on a belt or in a pocket. You will be able to go about your normal daily activities and will be asked to keep a diary of any symptoms you may feel (palpitations, dizziness, chest pain).
Your cardiologist may recommend this test if you experience:
To identify whether irregular heartbeats are causing your symptoms.
To detect potential rhythm-related causes of lightheadedness.
To rule out arrhythmias contributing to symptoms.
You may benefit from a 24-hour to 7-day monitor if you:
But a standard ECG hasn’t captured them.
Without an obvious cause.
Especially if brief or unpredictable.
That comes and goes throughout the day.
To confirm your therapy is working effectively.
