Under the care of Dr Sveeta Badiani, Consultant Cardiologist in London, a stress echocardiogram assesses how well your heart functions under physical or medically induced stress. This advanced test provides real-time ultrasound images to evaluate blood flow, heart muscle performance, and any signs of reduced oxygen supply during exertion.
An exercise echocardiography on an upright bike is a diagnostic test that uses ultrasound to take real-time images of your heart while you exercise, often to identify problems such as coronary artery disease, as well as valve abnormalities and other cardiac conditions.
The test involves pedalling an upright stationary bike, with the workload gradually increasing to elevate your heart rate. Echocardiograms are taken at rest, during exercise, and after you stop to compare the images and assess your heart’s function under stress as part of an Ischaemic Heart Disease Investigation.
If you are unable to exercise, you may be recommended to have a stress test with medications.
